Taken outside Hildegard's in Valdosta. This man was part of a Zydeco band playing for a local fundraiser to support families victimized by Hurricane Katrina.

Zydeco Man by =annunaki LOVE the character this deviant captured in this photo. The juxtaposition of the sun with the fill-flash. Just spot on. Well done, mate. (Suggested by ~asymons and Featured by `cweeks)

it is a good portrait, but I would like it even better if it hadn't been flashed. anyway, time to listen to my Big-Easy-Soundtrack once again :)

Personal preferences. I am still learning this flash and am trying to tone it down a bit more for shots like these. There are so many options on this thing, sometimes I just don't have time to set it up. That night I had to take pics indoors and outdoors during dusk. Light levels were changing very rapidly so it was hard to keep up. I personally like the amount of flash in this one, but again, I expected others may not.

Thanks for the honesty.
:iconmicdt:
when I was shooting for the paper I often had to use the flash (CT-4, CT-5) of course, but I never really liked it. nothing beats natural light IMHO. and I like to take risks, shoot 1/25 or 1/4. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't ;)

In order to achieve a decent shot without flash in that low light, I would have had to use a lens with an apeture of 2.8 or lower. Unfortunately the lens I had was 3.5 at that focal length. I believe these shots will be easier when I get the 17-55mm f/2.8. The only problem is that it is expensive. I will also be experimenting with flash reflectors and diffuser caps.
:iconmicdt:
I often used a piece of plastic as large as a coaster (Bierdeckel) and fixed it to the flash with a rubber band if I had no wall or ceiling for indirect flashing. worked quite well. and cheap ;)
